Four cable series and a made-for-cable movie were selected among the American Film Institute's television programs of the year.
The honorees include Battlestar Galactica on Sci-Fi Channel; Showtime's Dexter; HBO movie Elizabeth I; South Park on Comedy Central; and HBO's The Wire. Broadcast shows on the list include Friday Night Lights, Heroes, The Office, the now-canceled The West Wing on NBC and Fox's 24.
The shows were picked by a 13-member jury of TV journalists, academicians, producers and AFI board members. The jury met for two days to select the best in television for 2006.
The awards will be bestowed at a luncheon in Los Angeles Jan. 12.
